Breast Feeding Older Children

Published by kchtmto at 11:22 pm under Parenting Thoughts Edit This

You might think for my first post that this is a little controversial to talk about but I really have to speak my mind about it. I take my daughter to dance and gymnastics throughout the week and frequently I see a mom there that has a kid in my daughters class as well as another child that I think is about 2 maybe 2 1/2, this child is walking and talking.

Here is my issue … This mom is still breast feeding her 2 year old child, I heard this child scream at her mom that it was empty and she wanted the other one.

OK …I think breast feeding your child is a great thing, I wish I was able to breast feed my daughter. I also don’t have a problem with someone doing it in public, it’s a natural wonderful thing between mother and child. My issue is breast feeding an older child, especially one that can talk and ask for the other boob (that was what the child said). I know it’s up to each mother on when they want to stop breast feeding their child but I totally had a flash and saw that child at 10 screaming to drink from her mom’s breast. It just freaked me out.

I’m sure I’m going to hear all kinds of stuff from people on this, probably a mind your business, ignore it, whatever. I just wanted to express my thought on it. I can’t imagine this mom is trying to save money by giving her child breast milk, the child is old enough and probably eats regular food. I know it’s better for them and if that is the case then pump the milk and give them glasses of it. I just think there is an age limit and if you truly feel it’s necessary to do it then do it at home.

I just don’t understand, now every time I look at that mom and see her child I keep waiting for her to scream out, I’m hungry mommy give me your boob. I did just see her at the class the other day and she has a younger child then the one I’ve seen, he is about 1 or 1 1/2 yrs old and I’m sure she’s still breast feeding that child.

Again, don’t get me wrong with this post, it just caught me off guard to see this, and I don’t understand why someone would breast feed an older child, it doesn’t make sense to me.
